Vintage Metal Lunch Box Artists

Augustini, Sally - Assistant to Robert Burton during the 1950s and 1960s, she did the art for several Aladdin boxes such as Junior Miss and Miss America.

Bassler, Brenda - Created the The Pink Panther and Sons lunchbox and Heathcliff lunchbox in the early 1980s for Aladdin.

Bellerose, Mark - Created the art for KST's 1982 G.I. Joe lunchbox.

Blackburn, Jim – Hired by Aladdin to create art for the U.S. Mail dome, U.S. Mail Brunch Bag, and The Archies lunchbox in the late 1960s.

Boring, Wayne - Illustrated Universal's 1954 Superman lunch box.

Brown, Charlie – Created the art on several KST kits including Bullwinkle, Wagon Train, and Blondie. He roughed out designs for: Barbie, Junior Nurse, Alvin, Fireball XL5, Popeye, Smokey the Bear, and The Man From U.N.C.L.E. The designs were finished by other artists.

Burge, Beverly - Created The Rescuers, Pete's Dragon, Disney on Parade, Disney Express, Sesame Street, The Fox and the Hound, Annie, and Gremlins.

Burton, Robert O. - Created most of Aladdin's lunch kits in the 1950s. As director, hired Elmer Lehnhardt to do finishing work. Among Burton's best kits are the 1957 Buccaneer dome, Chuck Wagon, Tom Corbett: Space Cadet, Disneyland, Annie Oakley, Robin Hood, Jet Patrol, Zorro, Paladin, Space Explorer, and Ludwig Von Drake.

Caniff, Milton Created the Steve lunch kit.

Cohen, Sam - Hired by Nick LoBianco to create art for KST's 1963 Corsage and 1964 MacPherson Plaid kits.

Cummings, Ann – Created Winnie the Pooh, Raggedy Ann & Andy, Robin Hood (Disney cartoon), Sigmund and the Sea Monsters, and 1976 Mickey Mouse Club.

Davis, Jack - Did the finished art for KST's The Man From U.N.C.L.E. kit.

Hager, Jess - Created the art for the Captain Astro and Bond XX boxes.

Henry, Don - Created the Space Shuttle, Star Wars, the first Empire Strikes Back, King Kong, and The Clash of the Titans kits.

Henry, John - Created the Stewardess, Tammy & Pepper, Flintstones, James Bond 0O7, Tarzan, Jonathan Livingston Seagull, Pebbles & BammBamm, Drag Strip, Evel Kneivel, Skateboarder, Superman (the movie), and Buck Rogers kits.

Hosse, Dan - Created the Thundercats kit.

Johnson, Victor - Suggested putting the Hopalong Cassidy decal on lunch boxes in the late 1940s. The suggestion went nowhere until Aladdin hired a new sales manager, Vernon Church. Church recognized the marketing potential of the idea. Retailed in 1950, the Hoppy kit started the trend.

Jones, Bob - Created Grizzly Adams, Wonder Woman, Eighteen Wheeler, The Cyclist: Dirt Bike, Disco, Disney's Magic Kingdom, The Dukes of Hazard, The Secret of NIMH, Sport Goofy, Masters of the Universe, and Pac-Man kits.

Konetzni, Al - Idea for the Disney School Bus kit which, at 9 million kits, became the biggest selling kit of all time.

Kulman, William - Created the art for their Early Frontier lunch box series of the 1980s.

Lehnhardt, Elmer – Aladdin’s art director during the 1960s and 1970s and created The Beverly Hillbillies, Bonanza, The Beatles, Batman, Gomer Pyle, Hogan's Heroes, It's About Time, Laugh-In, Rat Patrol, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Dr. Doolittle, The Flying Nun, Gentle Ben and Land of the Giants.

Lemery, Gene - Created most of KST's kits between 1976 and 1986. This include Pele, The Fonz, The Hardy Boys, Star Trek: the Motion Picture, The Empire Strikes Back, Mr. Merlin, Knight Rider, and The A-Team.

LoBianco, Nick - Created most of KST's kit art in the 1960s and 1970s. including Lost In Space dome, The Munsters, Soupy Sales, Flipper, Get Smart, The Green Hornet, Lost in Space, Monkees, The Guns of Will Sonnett, Yellow Submarine, Julia, Cowboy in Africa, Hee Haw, Lance Link, The Partridge Family, Bobby Sherman, UFO, The Addams Family, Kung Fu, and Space: 1999.

Marshall, Jock - Hired by American Thermos in the late 1950s, Created the generic Americana kit which featured regional maps of the United States, the Dutch Cottage, Firehouse, Satellite, and Corsage kits for Thermos.

Matthews, Bruce - Created Ronald McDonald: Sheriff of Cactus Canyon kit.

Neil, Milt - Created Howdy Doody for the ADCO Liberty lunch box.

Oughton, T. – Finished the art for the Battle Kit and Fess Parker (Daniel Boone) TV Show kits for KST.

Petrucci, Sam - Created KST's 1979 The Magic of Lassie kit.

Polgreen, John - Created KST's Astronaut dome.

Randolph, Bill - Created The Mickey Mouse Club lunchbox in 1977.

Wexler, Ed - Created the art for most of American Thermos' steel lunch boxes from 1953 through 1964, including the Roy Rogers series, Boating, Brave Eagle, Trigger, Davy Crockett, and Hometown Airport dome.

Wood, Wally - Created the art for Universal's Supercar kit, then through contacts with Nick LoBianco, he did the finished Popeye lunchbox and Fireball XL5 kit art for KST.
